11-02-2017: Westering Home….

Another trek to the Far North this week, this time to Kyle of Lochalsh, courtesy of a Club 50 special ticket,

Scotrail class 158 dmu. 158702 stands at Kyle of Lochalsh on 11th February 2017 with a service for Inverness.

which allows travel between any two stations on the Scotrail network for £17.00 return.

I had an early kick off, arriving at Stirling just in time to see DBS class 67, 67013 on the 1S25 London Euston-Inverness sleeper, followed closely be DRS class 66, 66424 on the 4H47 Mossend Yard-Inverness ‘Tesco’ liner.

From Stirling, I headed to Glasgow, which was where I’d intended to buy my ticket to Kyle, and thereby boosting my rail mileage as well. There was also the advantage of just walking onto the train in Glasgow and choosing my seat, instead of the usual scramble for a decent seat when it arrives in Stirling.

The trip to Inverness, (where I had to change trains), was uneventful, and on arrival, I decided to buy some supplies for the trip to Kyle. I went to the M & S close to the station. I won’t be making that mistake again. Talk about expensive!!

I felt justified in getting something though as I was only on the Kyle train five minutes when it was announced that there would be no trolley.

The trip up to Kyle of Lochalsh was lovely in the winters’ sun, though on arrival, i didn’t have time to spare, with only an eleven minute turn around, so it was out onto the platform to take the necessary photos and back on the train as soon as possible.

The trip back was, again, mostly in sunshine and proved to be an enjoyable and relaxing afternoon.
